The newly refurbished velodrome in London’s Olympic Park, cycling venue for the upcoming Summer Games, is an “inescapable advertisement” for B.C. wood. Inspired by the proliferation of wood in Vancouver and Whistler during the 2010 Winter Olympics, “the stunning exterior of the new cycle track, visible from miles around, is encased in 24,000 pieces – or 280 cubic meters – of the province’s Western Red Cedar.” According to this report in BC Business, the purchase order was initiated by a U.K. division of the Probyn Group, who then turned to Surrey’s Power Wood Corp. for the cedar, run to pattern.
