What’s in a name?

It’s noted this week that job titles are not what they used to be, according to a new analysis of business card trends.  Print orders show that “ninja” is among the popular monikers out there, along with rockstar, guru, and geek.

By virtue of their ‘middleman’ role in the wholesale distribution function, lumber wholesalers may find themselves leading when it comes to interpreting market change.  Evidently that doesn’t mean we’re ahead of the curve when it comes to naming our specific roles, or defining positions within an organization.  Our Dakeryn website clearly spells out the diverse roles of each member of our team here.  You’ll note positions include:  President, Purchasing – Canadian Sales, Specialty Product Sales, Home Center Sales, Off-Shore Sales, Low Grade Lumber Sales, Canadian Prairie Sales, among others.  Of course we have a few “Managers” in the mix.  You’ll note that my position is “U.S. Sales”  – some might say that’s sexy enough.  Perhaps awareness of ‘Job Title’ trends will inspire name reviews in some lumber trading offices – especially when it’s noted that despite the spiced-up appearances around here this Movember, no one in our office earned a spot in People Magazine’s annual hot list of Sexiest Man Alive published this week.
