Last night I attended a BCIT Alumni event at the Vancouver Convention Center, to listen to speaker Dr. Nicholas Christakis – Harvard Professor and co-author of Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks and How They Shape Our Lives. Dr. Christakis was billed as “one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.” His studies and findings, illustrated throughout his speech in colorful slides of connected nodes (people) and resultant clusters, reveal how social networks shape our identity. Thought-provoking stuff, and I couldn’t help but note its relevance within our lumber industry. The Dakeryn Playoff Beard Poll brought 458 unique visitors to this blog yesterday – all of whom are connected in some way.
