A decade ago, Holmes says, there were 70 or so independent lumberyards operating within a 100-mile radius. “Today, there are about five…” But demand is on the rise, Holmes observes, although he qualifies the market isn’t nearly as strong as it was in 2005 and 2006. “The agricultural community is doing very well around here,” he says. “It’s much more positive, but it’s still going to be difficult.”
